Is Our Planet Blue or Green?

Finally there is a network devoted to those enviromentally minded people, which I am, I admit proudly. Discovery Channel is launching a new network on June 4th called Planet Green and is essentially replacing the Discovery Home network. They promise it won't be a heavy handed lecture, but an informative and hopefully fun network to watch. Many celebrities will grace the channel, among them Ed Begley Jr. and Tom Berrenger. There is an especially interesting show called Greensburg about Greensburg, Kansas which was completely destroyed by a tornado on May 5, 2007. The show's Executive Producer is Leonardo DiCaprio and chronicles how the town is rebuilding itself "green". Go to Planet Green and see for yourself how many interesting shows are coming our way.

Thanks for this heads up Karen. I am absolutely thrilled about this effort, although I think they will have a long haul to get viewers. I have been "green" for many years, since I was a teenager and worked an "Eco-Booth" for Earth Day back in the 70's. But it will be interesting to see how they can bring people in to this important subject without the push back of "depressing" being the lead story of every series and episode. I love animals, and science, and Rain Forests and the environment. They have to find a way to keep the content hopeful and interesting. If I see too many shots of burning tire dumps and factories and why America is the end of the world, I'm going to flip that channel quicker than a hiccup and go watch Meercat Manor on Animal Planet instead.

I didn't know this was happening -- very interesting and certainly high time, but I agree with Jane, they better figure out how to make this not seem like taking medicine!

With so many celebrities seemingly on the bandwagon, perhaps there will be some glitz along with the message. Let's hope! Great post, Karen!

It really pleases me that so many people are recognising the importance of conservation, ecologically sound policies and just being "green" in general. It seems like environmental issues are finally moving past partisan politics. It's an issue we should all embrace. We all breath the same air, have the same water sources and enjoy nature whenever we can get into the great outdoors. Kudos to Discovery.
