As Jane reminded us here earlier, FX Network's prickly dramedy Rescue Me returns for its fifth season tonight, with a full order of 22 episodes on tap for us. Rescue Me tends to make every other drama seem a little anemic, don't you think, and it's Denis Leary's sexy and searing portrayal of troubled firefighter Tommy Gavin that sets this one on fire.
Here's an early review from today's New York Times -- can't wait to see Michael J. Fox in this exciting and often daring series!
Rescue Me airs at Tuesdays at 10pm on FX. Visit the Rescue Me website for great extras and more info.

Finally got to see the season premier. I forgot to set my DVR but discovered that Time Warner now has Prime Time on Demand. It's awesome. Current episodes of just about anything you want to watch On Demand. They are embedded with commercials, but their mostly movie and TV trailers and promos, so you don't mind watching them. The season is off to an interesting start. Tommy Gavin and his existential angst! It's smart, profane, and darker than a bucket of tar. I love it.
I really loved Michael J. Fox -- so great to see him! Pretty great rant Tommy had after watching those home movies!
Nothing la-di-da about "Rescue Me" -- pure androgen-fueled impetus! I love it too!
You won't believe it but I completely forgot that you mentioned Michael J. Fox was going to be in the series and when I watched this episode I DIDN'T EVEN RECOGNIZE HIM! I was so transfixed with the nerve of a character who would yank Tommy Gavin's chain like that, I did not know it was Fox. What an amazing transformation. Even with his illness, he is an amazing actor.
