Fingers Crossed for Neil Patrick Harris to Host The Emmy Awards...

The buzz today is that the multi-talented Neil Patrick Harris is in the running to host the 2009 Emmy Awards, scheduled for September 20th. He did a terrific job emceeing the Tonys last month, and there is truly nothing this fellow can't do.

He's scathingly brilliant in CBS' current comedy hit How I Met Your Mother, was a dastardly Dr. Horrible in Joss Whedon's online musical from last year, and has given incredible performances in many critically acclaimed Broadway productions, including the television concert version of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd back in 2001.

Of course, we all remember that he rose to TV stardom as the titular child prodigy doctor Doogie Howser, M.D. back in 1989, seen below in a 1992 scene with veteran character actress Kathleen Freeman. Neil Patrick Harris is a real trouper and we can't think of anybody who could bring some of the pizazz and fun -- and viewers -- back to the Emmy Awards, as well as he could.

Let's cross our fingers that this comes true! NPH for Emmy host!

Neil is that rarest of Hollywood celebrity-types. A child star with talent who is still doing fine in show biz instead of holding up convenience stores. I hope this rumor is true!
