Siegfried and Roy Come Back and Go Away Tonight on ABC's "20/20"

In the category of unusual combinations that obviously work, put Siegfried and Roy, the extraordinarily-talented and extraordinarily-devoted magician duo. Their colorful career as flamboyant Las Vegas superstars with a troop of beautiful tigers under their spell came to a shocking end over five years ago when Roy was critically injured by their Bengal tiger Montecore during one of their shows.

Even more impressive than their show business achievements has been the personal relationship of Siegfried and Roy. Since Roy's accident Siegfried has been his primary caregiver, and as we'll see in tonight's edition of 20/20, their household is a model of loyalty and love.

Last weekend, Siegfried and Roy took to the stage again at the Bellagio Hotel, together with Montecore, to raise money for the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, soon-to-open in Las Vegas. It was a historic performance and ABC will devote the special two-hour 20/20 to the event, with "Siegfried & Roy: The Magic Returns".

This is a don't-miss TV event, on so many levels -- for pure curiousity, as an amazing human story, as another example of the tenuous and mysterious bond between man and animals, and everything in between. I can't wait to see it. Like HBO's intriguing documentary Cat Dancers from several months ago, these kind of stories never get old.

20/20's "Siegfried & Roy: The Magic Returns" airs tonight, Friday, at 9pm -- special time! -- on ABC.

The first thing I thought of when I heard about their "comeback" was the documentary Cat Dancers. Can't wait to watch this one!
