As usual, I had to record last night's episode and then only got to watch the first 15 minutes this morning before I had to head off to work. What I saw was captivating on so many levels. The attention they are paying to historical detail is fantastic. I loved the references to John Glenn's ticker tape parade. But was even more impressed when they brought up the American Airlines flight that fell into the ocean. Growing up in NY, I remember that story on the news when I was a tiny kid, and it absolutely terrified me! It was cool when Don Draper pulled their airline account ads, a practise that exists to this day, whenever there is an accident. Can't wait to see the rest tonight! I also have plans for some posts about new shows coming up soon on HBO (True Blood) and FOX in the fall (Fringe).

I just watched "For Those Who Think Young," the first episode of the second season on YouTube, and I have to say this is hands down the best drama on TV. The setting alone is worth tuning in for. Early 60s? Fugeddaboudit! Amazing attention to detail, and that same SOPRANOS sensibility in terms of direction and writing. One can really see Matthew Weiner's stamp on it (plus the episode was directed by the great but long dormant-in-features director Tim Hunter). It's an extremely sexy show, too. A glimpse of Betsy in her jodpurs is definite sex-fantasy material. If the show lasts seven more years, one can really see a change a-comin' once the series hits 1966, 67, 68. If it ends at 1970, it'll be perfect. Cannot wait to see the rest...where can I find 'em online?

I loved it. I'm just so hooked on this show. Even though the pace can be slow, I'm still captured by it. I just did another another Mad Men post about watching it on demand, and better yet, on demand in HD! If you have HD/Digitial cable you don't have to worry about recording it! And you'll get it in crisp, clear vibrant colors. Episodes become avaible soon after they air on Sunday nights.

For unauthorized but it's-better-than-nothing versions of Season 1 eps for catch-up purposes, try www.56.com or youku.com -- search for Mad Men. All of season one is there on both sites, I think.
