Is there anything better these days than the Onion website / TV show? I think they perfectly lay down parody of modern TV news discourse and design. Have you ever seen a movie or TV show that tries to reproduce a clip of a local or national TV news show? 99.9% of the time, they get it wrong. Something is off about the reading of the lines or quality of the news or the look of it all. Most if the time is has to do with the words and the way they're being said. At any rate, "The Onion," true to its print counterpart, does a brilliant job of recreating the modern news--its color schemes, language, graphics, tone, and setting (maybe it's easier to get news parodies done now that they're so reliant on other elements besides just the person in front of the camera). Whatever the reason, ONION news could easily be seen as REAL news by someone just cavalierly flipping the channels. Which makes it brilliant. I had seen this Tony clip a few days before you posted it. I really enjoyed it (and freeze framed it, natuarally, at that point where they list, as a graphics background, other awards given out that night, such as "Best Performance by a Jock." THE ONION, as always, is on top of it. Still haven't seen THE ONION MOVIE, though...
I completely agree. The Onion totally gets what they are parodying, like you said, unlike the always lame, always off, news simulations in other shows of movies. The Onion verisimillitude is perfect -- and hilarious!
I forgot to mention my favorite category -- "Best Old Man Back Ache"!
Ahh, I finally got my PC sound going again and was able to watch this fabulous parody. I'm going to have to add The Onion to my must see/read/watch list. All the more reason why we need a special feature on the Nose to highlight Internet viewing gems.
